Wondering where the old Uber Forumz went? well in simple, because no one used it, it was taken down as it ended up being alot more work then it was worth, so if you would like to see a forum again here, just post a comment so, and if people seriously reply “besides spam” it will be done!

Ok, todays nothing but good news as not only did our ISP decide we now deserve 2x faster DL speed (sorry, no faster upload speed…yet), and my new motherboard for my desktop should be here Monday, meaning if all goes to plan, the new site should be roughly up in exactly 1 week if all goes to plan.

Well I was planning on having the entire server and network upgrade done by now, but my desktop motherboard recently died on me, and I am unable to continue work on the new site or any of my scripts until I get a replacement motherboard, so just hang with me for now.

Recently I have been buying alot of new equipment to help me learn more about how REAL server farms work, and how to manage a small to medium sized network, so withen the next month Uber will be moved to new equipment, on a new floor of the building here, with new goodies (Gigabit Ether 100% now), a new layout, and hopefully a new attitude. Hope your as pumped as I am!

Server Updated/Good to Go

Well I finally updated my server to 2008 r2 and got my hands on more ram for my system, bringing it up to 3 Gb. Also, I now am running off of IIS instead of apache, and now use Exchange server 2010 instead of Mercury mail. I highly recommend exchange server to everyone out there! once you get it set up as you like, the thing is amazing!

Blackberry Pearl 8130 vs Blackberry Tour 9630

Well after getting a nice little pearl on eBay, I wanted to see what it would be like to live with a pearl for 24 hours instead of my blackberry tour. Now, this review is kind of opinionated, but bear with it. I will go over the Design, Features, Phone Speed, and in the end, my final thoughts and ratings of each device. Lets begin:

Design
The Pearl: B The blackberry pearl, all in all, ahs a nice design and feel, but there are a few minor flaws with the device, or at least mine. One big thing is the trackball. Its nice and all, but to easily it can get dirty, and then to fix it, you need to take the trackball out, clean it up, and put it back in. Not the biggest of deal, as you only really have to do this like probably two times a year, but it is still annoying when you try to scroll through the applications, and it only seems to respond when it feels like it. Besides that, the phone its self feels strongly build, and also looks nice. I give the pearl a B.

The Tour: A- The Tour, besides the first few devices sold having bad trackballs, overall has a great design, except I personally feel that the lack of the openGL and a official release of a 5.0 OS for this device really makes it lack. Besides that, the phone has a nice rubber feel, and it feels nice in your hand. The 3.2 MP camera is amazing, and the screen on the tour has a very nice, clean, crisp image. Overall, I give it a A-.

Features

The Pearl: B- The phone has a nice OS, a lot of security options, a lot of apps, and email push like every blackberry, but the camera quality is not the best, and is comparable to a .5 MP camera. I must say tho, the phones flash counts as a flashlight if you ever need, so for that all said, overall, this device gets a B-.

The Tour: B A full QWERTY keyboard, and 3.2 MP camera are the two main things that stand out about this phone. From that, to it being a global phone, this phone is really full of goodies! One downside tho is the media player it comes with has problems playing long movies, making it hard to resume a movie, and that kind of sucks as I wanted this to replace my ipod touch as well, but I guess it fails there. All in all, id give it a B.

Phone Speed

The Pearl: C Well maybe its just me, but this phone seems to really lag in the web browser, and sometimes just general use. Even trying to send a text, it freezes for about 5 seconds before it sends. I have only had the device crash once during a app install, but this lag does get ignoring. For all that, it gets a C.

The Tour: B+ Only real lag on this device is when you use the web browser, or install a app, but besides that, I have not had any problem with lag. It gets a B+ as the semi-slow web page loading can get old after a bit. but if you don’t need stuff right away, then its not a big deal.

Final Thoughts

Well the pearl may be a nice entry device, or for just casual surfers and texters, but it does not really seem to keep up with the speed of my life. I use the web browser alot, and the pearl was just too slow for me, so in the end, the winner would have to be the Blackberry Tour.

Uber Texting Script

Well after accidentally deleting the texting script I spent so much time on, I’m going to start again on it, and try to make it better then ever! Like all my scripts, after I feel it is good enough to release, I will do so here, and it will be shareware, and under the Creative Commons license, so feel free to do what you please with it after I get it up! Just don’t forget to keep my user name in it. (and mabie a link to my site if you feel nice enough). Il keep this site updated with news on it, mabie a demo link, Etc.

FYI: The comparison of my two Blackberries will hopefully be up later tonight.

Blackberry Head On Head

Well I recently bought a Blackberry pearl on ebay for about $20 USD, and it was scratched and warn to hell, so I decided to get all new parts, and pretty much referbish the entire phone myself. In the end it turned out good, and now looks like my main phone, a Blackberry Tour. Now, about every other night, I swap between phones, just to mess with each of them, but I plan on doing a review of each soon, involving ease of use, web speed, camera quality, and build quality, so keep a eye out, as I plan on getting that all done withen the next week or so.

Welcome to Uber Forumz! This used to be a nice open community forum, for coding, friends, help, and everything you can think of, but recently the site has died down to zero visitors. This site is now a blog for random news about the server, projects the old Uber team is working on, and other random little things.
